(Other wise known as; Did I really volunteer for this and now there Many people are daunted by the prospect of building a float and that is why the Carnival has over the past few years given inspiration to all in the form of a theme. OK so were to start... H M M M ! ! ! Right the best thing to do is decide whether you are going to walk or get yourself a vehicle. In the past that was easy but in this day an age vehicle operators are more circumspect re insurance etc. about taking part in Carnival. As a committee we are aware of this and that is why we insist that each entrant provides its own Marshall to supervise each float and ensure the safety of its participants. OK that’s the boring bit over with lets get cracking You have found yourself a tame lorry driver and vehicle (some participants are known to have found this the most satisfying part) Next you need to get your team together bribes are often known to work best although Carnival cannot be held responsible for any underhand methods used in getting the float built. Decide on your floats theme. Which itself is quite open to any interpretation so whether you decide to incorporate two footed, four wheel or two wheels. Materials are easily obtained by begging and relying on our local traders benevolence in giving you cardboard, carpet roll tubes any old pots of paint, wood if you are lucky and anything else you may need. Draw up your plans our local pubs offer many great lubricants to help ease the cogs of imagination and dependant on how much lubricant you consume you never know you may commit to building the next space shuttle. Now is the time to put it all together have fun while you do that and remember that most of our participants only finish their floats on the day of Carnival. So don’t panic. We look forward to seeing you on the day and hope the weather is good and remember it is you that makes the procession what it is, not us.
